Mr. G. Burgess Gbelee, Jr. is a young Liberian who is a devoted Medical Laboratory Technologist and Field Epidemiologist. He is an MPhil Fellow in Applied Epidemiology and Control at University of Ghana.

He is the unit head of the newly established Genomic Sequencing Lab at the National Public Health Reference Laboratory, National Public Health Institute of Liberia.

He is the first Liberia Medical Laboratory Personnel in Liberia to have received training in COVID-19 diagnostic and diagnosed the first COVID-19 case in Liberia. He is an infectious substance transportation trainer in the Anglophone countries of West Africa.

Mr. Gbelee is one of three laboratory technologists who will be responsible for sample collection, testing, analyzing sequence data and reporting. He will also supervise the day to day activities of the laboratory.
